NFL Week 2 Picks and Week 1 Recap

The 2018-2019 NFL season is underway, and through one week we've seen the usual contenders, some hot rookies, some disappointing team performances, and an incredible primetime comeback from Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. Before looking to Week 2, let's see how I made out in Week 1: I still need to get my NFL record predictions out, but I work all day 😥For tonight’s game though, I’m locking in my pick of #Eagles over #Falcons . — Sak Sports Blog (@SakSports) September 6, 2018 While I didn't predict a score here, the Eagles ultimately won this Thursday night slugfest 18-12 behind two touchdowns from Jay Ajayi. 1-0 #Ravens 24 #Bills 9 Buffalo struggles in the season opener while Joe Flacco and company start off a productive year — Sak Sports Blog (@SakSports) September 9, 2018 The Ravens won and the Bills offense definitely struggled. I correctly predicted no Buffalo touchdowns, but they only mustered three points in an abysmal quarterback ...

NFL Conference Championships Preview and Predictions

Nearly every game of the 2018 NFL Playoffs has been close, and many have featured epic finishes. Hopefully this streak continues into championship weekend, as the final four teams square off for a chance to play in Super Bowl LII. Will the Minnesota Vikings become the first team to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium? Or will the Philadelphia Eagles prove the doubters wrong once again behind Nick Foles? As Tom Brady and the New England Patriots play in their 7th-straight AFC Championship game, will they reach back-to-back Super Bowls? Or will Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars continue their Cinderella run all the way to the big game? So far in the playoffs, I'm 5-3 picking games, so I'll look to be 7-3 after this weekend. There's plenty of storylines and drama, but only four potential Super Bowl matchups. Which two teams will meet on February 4th? Read on for my picks. Jacksonville Jaguars (12-6) at New England Patriots (14-3) ...

Full 2018 NFL Divisional Round Preview & Picks

The 2018 NFL Playoffs kicked off in a huge way on Wildcard Weekend, with upsets, an 18 point comeback, and of course, some officiating calls that sparked debate by armchair referees. The divisional round could be just as fun if not more exciting, with eight teams set for action this weekend. Last week I went 2-2 in my picks, incorrectly choosing the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams. The Tennessee Titans win was improbable so I don't feel bad about picking that wrong, but I almost picked the Atlanta Falcons and wish I did. With that being said, why am I going to pick against the Falcons AGAIN this week? Read ahead to find out my picks for all four games. Atlanta Falcons (11-6) at Philadelphia Eagles (13-3) Time: Saturday, January 13th at 4:35 PM ET TV: NBC Line: Atlanta Falcons (-3) For the first time in modern NFL playoff history, a conference's top seed will open their first game as a home underdog. Despite having tied for the NFL's ...

2018 NFL Wildcard Weekend Review

The 2018 NFL Playoffs are well underway, in a weekend where three games came down to the final minute, an eighteen point lead was squandered, and division champions were upset at home. I layed out these games and made my picks in a preview,  where I only went 2-2. Both of Saturday's results surprised me, especially the Tennessee Titans comeback against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Atlanta Falcons win over the Los Angeles Rams was slightly more believable, considering Atlanta's playoff pedigree. But I was still shocked the Rams could only muster 13 points, although they weren't great at home all season. Sunday's games felt a lot more predictable, but they were exciting nonetheless. Seeing the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars in the playoffs for the first time in years was a fun way to start the day. The game dragged at times, scoreless for awhile then tied 3-3, before intensity rose in the second half. Blake Bortles gained more yards with his feet (...

Full NFL Wildcard Weekend Preview and Predictions

The 2018 NFL playoffs kick off this weekend with a different feel than recent years. Gone are the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson, and teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, and Tennessee Titans qualified for the first time in years. Of course, familiar faces like the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers also made the postseason, looking to block the paths of any Cinderella runs in the AFC. The first weekend of NFL games in 2018 is loaded with storylines, so let's dive right in to each of the four games. Tennessee Titans (9-7) at Kansas City Chiefs (10-6)    Game Time: Saturday, January 6th, 4:20 PM ET / 1:20 PM PT TV: ESPN Line: Kansas City Chiefs (-8) If these two teams met in the beginning of the 2018 season, it would have been a much more exciting affair. Both offenses were thriving, as the Kansas City Chiefs dropped 24 or more points in each game of their 5-0 start, tallying 42 points...

Top Five Super Bowl Favorites According to Vegas

The NFL season is entering it's 14th week, and playoff talk is heating up. In this year more than ever, plenty of teams will be competing for the Lombardi trophy.  The Los Angeles Rams, leading the NFC West at 9-3, and New Orleans Saints, who are 9-3 atop the NFC South, and Minnesota Vikings, tied at a league-best 10-2, were hardly expected to compete for the title coming into the season. Things have gone a little more predictably in the AFC, with the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers leading the pack. Still, the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars looked poised to make playoff runs as well. Who does Las Vegas see as the favorites to win Super Bowl LII in Minnesota? (Source: Westgate Las Vegas Superbook) 5. Tied: Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints (12-1) The Seattle Seahawks have been a perennial contender under Russell Wilson, but had to bounce back from a shaky start to get to where they are now. Despite a 1-2 start and losing two ...

Potential Landing Spots if Eli Manning Left Giants

Eli Manning has only played for the New York Giants in his career, leading them to two Super Bowls. While rumors have swirled around his future in New York with the Giants struggling, Manning does have a no-trade clause. Still under contract along with Odell Beckham Jr, Manning will likely be back with Big Blue next year. But if the two sides decide it's time to part ways? At 1-7, the Giants could draft a quarterback in next year's draft and hit the reset button. If Manning complied, he could finish his career with another team, perhaps with a shot at one last title. Again, I think there's an overwhelming chance Manning is still the starting quarterback for the Giants in 2018. But if he were to move on, where could he go? What teams would take the veteran quarterback for his last NFL years? Jacksonville Jaguars I actually already wrote about the hypothetical idea of the Jaguars trading for Manning earlier this season.  The obvious connection is his fo...

The Hypothetical Eli Manning to the Jaguars Trade

Let's be clear: New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning isn't going anywhere despite the team's 1-5 start. But that doesn't mean we can't think about a trade that NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah posed. (Note: This post was written prior to New York and Jacksonville’s Week 7 NFL matchups, all stats and records reflect the team’s first six games) On October 9, Jeremiah posted this tweet, sparking conversations about the hypothetical trade: If you're Tom Coughlin/David Caldwell, would you make a call to Giants & ask what it would cost to acquire Eli Manning? — Daniel Jeremiah (@MoveTheSticks) October 9, 2017 Manning already responded to the rumors, saying he doesn't want to leave New York at all.  The longtime Giants quarterback also has a no-trade clause in his contract that we would have to waive to even make the deal possible. This is the sports world, where "what if's?" can be debated endlessly, so let's like a...
